Tails é Software Livre: você pode baixar, usar e compartilhar sem restrições.

O código-fonte do Tails é lançado sob a licença GNU/GPL (versão 3 ou superior) e é protegido por Copyright (C) de Tails developers foundations@tails.net. Qualquer exceção a esta regra está documentada abaixo ou no arquivo afetado no código-fonte.

Apesar disso, o Tails, assim como o Debian, inclui arquivos binários de firmware com código fechado para poder funcionar no maior número possível de hardwares.
